ICRC Wins County Playground Approval,
Construction Set for June, 2012
At their October 26 regular board meeting the Riverside County Planning Commission unanimously approved the
Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for the Idyllwild Community Recreation Council (ICRC) to move ahead with ICRC's
plans to build an 8,000 square foot playground facility at the Idyllwild Community Center site.

ICRC successfully negotiated the process for the CUP with only minor modifications to their original plans. The
Riverside County Building and Safety Department will perform all necessary inspections to ensure the community-
built playground conforms to all applicable codes and public standards.

ICRC President Dawn Sonnier said, "I'm elated with the outcome of the Planning Commission's decision. The ICRC
board has worked tirelessly for this project and the community has overwhelmingly supported our efforts for which I
am truly grateful."

ICRC has raised just over $100,000 to build a state-of-the-art recreation playground for Idyllwild that members of the
community have expressed a strong need for years. The decision comes too late in the season to begin construction
in 2011. Purchase of the equipment and site preparation will commence in the spring of 2012 with a playground build
date set for June, 2012.

Ice Skating Rink Will Not Open

We wanted to let everyone know that the proposed Winter Ice Skating Rink at the ICC Site will not be opening this
year. We were looking forward to sharing this type of activity for all the Hill residents, but regretfully, we were told that
they (the contractors) were unable to freeze the ice due to mechanical failure. Hopefully, we can try again next year.
We have many exciting ideas for future events to come, including; the Idyllwild Community Playground, the Summer
Concert Series, the Idyllwild Haunted Ghost Town, the ICRC Speaker Series, the Community Arts Network at the
Apple Blossom Inn, and many more. Also, we are working hard to keep the Idyllwild Skate Park open at least 5 days
a week. We want to thank all of you for your patience and understanding and look forward to seeing you out and
about in our wonderful mountain community.

Yours truly,
ICRC Board Directors:
Dawn Sonnier, Emily White, Scott Redeker, Cheryl Vladika, Claudia Posey, CAN coordinator Judy Schonebaum
